Participant Information Sheet
I am currently a postgraduate student in the Department of Psychology at Nottingham Trent University and would like to invite you to take part in a short study. There is no obligation to take part and there will be no adverse consequences, if you decide not to participate.
What is the study about?
The aim of the project is to develop an understanding of why or why not someone consumes political humour. To do this, different area of motivation (external and internal), will be measured. Such as the participants political identity and interest in certain podcasts.
Who can take part?
• You need to be over the age of 18.
• British or lived in the UK, for the past 3 years +
What does the study involve?
Participants will be asked to complete the following survey. You will be asked questions around your podcast consumption habits, as well as politics and your political identity. You will be also asked question around your problem-solving preference.
This survey should take around 5 to 10 minutes to complete
Right to withdraw
Your participation in this study is purely voluntary. If you wish to withdraw at any time, you are free to do so. You do not have to give a reason for terminating the study. You are also entitled to withdraw your data from the study after you have taken part. If you do wish to remove your data after you have taken part, please email us with your unique identifier (which you will provide on the next form). There is a deadline of two weeks from the date you took part in the study, for removing your data. Please note that in this instance, your anonymity may be compromised. This is because many email addresses contain a person's name, therefore a temporary link may be formed between your name and data before it is destroyed.
What will happen to data collected?
The data will be handled only by members of the research team, in line with data protection principles (GDPR) and our approved research protocol. This means hard copies of research notes are kept in locked filing cabinets, and electronic files are kept on password protected computers which are not accessible to any other university staff. You will not be named or otherwise identified in any publication arising from this study.
