Participant Information Sheet

Welcome 

We would like to invite you to participate in a study and welcome you to read this document to understand more about the project. The study will be conducted a third-year undergraduate student in the Department of Psychology at Nottingham Trent University. There is no obligation to take part nonetheless, it would be greatly appreciated if you considered participating in this study.

What is this study about? 

This study aims to investigate levels of word recall in multilingual individual’s vs monolingual individuals when similar objects are displayed in different forms of media.

Who can participate? 

You must be 18 years old or more.

What does the study involve? 

You will be taking part in a questionnaire that will last approximately 20 minutes. The questionnaire will present you with 10 stimuli of everyday objects and will ask you to remember these objects. After being presented with all of these you will be asked to perform a 10 second task before recalling as many of these objects as you can. This will be repeated 10 times. Your responses will be recorded with your permission.

Right to withdraw 

You have the right to withdraw without giving a reason to do so. If you wish to withdraw you should contact the researcher and ask for your data to be withdrawn from the study by within 3 weeks of completion of this questionnaire.

What will happen to the data collected? 

 Due to the nature of the research, results from the questionnaire will be used in the final report. To protect your anonymity all data will be anonymous and will only be recognisable by the unique identifier you create. All results will be discarded after completion of the research.

Any further questions? 

Upon completion of the questionnaire, if recruited through the SONA system you will be granted 2 research credits. You are free to ask any questions you may have about the questionnaire or research in general. Support websites will be made available to you after the questionnaire in case any of the issues raised during the questionnaire later prove to be upsetting to you.

Participation is voluntary and greatly appreciated. If you are happy to take part in this research, please sign and date below.
